What We Do
Camp Horizon, established in 2005 by Steven and Lindsey Sharpe, is a weekend-long camping experience for kids with physical disabilities. Lindsey is a Physical Therapist at the Children’s Hospital at Erlanger and saw a need for her patients to experience a camp created just for them, despite any physical limitations they may have.
The purpose of Camp Horizon is to allow kids with physical disabilities the opportunity to broaden their horizons by spending time with other kids in similar situations in the outdoor environment.
Each camper is paired up with a student volunteer for the duration of the weekend. Our student volunteers are Doctoral candidates within the Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy programs, as well as nursing students at the University of Tennessee – Chattanooga.
Camp Horizon gives these student volunteers valuable hands-on experience in treating and handling the pediatric physical therapy patient population.
This relationship allows Camp Horizon to provide a safe and welcoming environment of learning and growth for both our campers and volunteers.
Camp Horizon, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that operations 100% on grants and donations. Because money should never be a barrier to participating in camp, Campers are able to attend
